    Default Offer For Gold

I was just accepted for a green card. I have had my eye on the gold card but my plan was to wait a "little while" beofre i asked AMEX for one. I just recieved in the mail an offer for a gold but i am not sure now is the time to apply for it. The reason why i would want one is because i heard a lot of great things about the travel benefits that come with that card. I am from the east coast and now live on the west coast and i travel home about 2 times a year with my spouse. My questions are.

    1. If i apply now for the gold card, which one is more benifical. i see 2 gold cards on the site.

    2. Is there any reason i should wait now and think about the gold a year from now or should i go ahead and jump on it. Not sure if they would do another credit check and i dont want to take another hit right now on it. I am not too worried about the annual fee but i do like the travel benifits.

Default There's no reason to feel you need to bow down to American Express

You can probably get a gold card with the first year free just for the asking. If you do a lot of travel, then it might be worth it. But don't be so impressed by Amex that you feel you have to ask them for a card. If you have a good credit history, it is an honor for them to have you as a customer.

Frankly, I think there are reward cards available from Visa/MC that charge no annual fee that are better than what Amex offers (unless you travel an awful lot). Amex is for people who travel a lot and/or like the prestige of a gold or platinum Amex card. Amex customer service is generally good but no better than what you can find for free if you look carefully.

As for which gold card is right for you, you can research that on their website. I used to have one of them but I forget which. I applied and got it with the first year free and x number of bonus points. They didn't give me the bonus points until after I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I lost all respect for Amex after that and closed the account after I cashed in the points for my 50 bucks or whatever it was.

Whatever you decide to do, remember that the CCs and banks serve YOU. Learn all the rules and follow them to the letter, then make them earn your business and complain when they fall short.

The most beneficial version is the new Premier Rewards version, which gives much higher rewards than the regular. It also currently offers a much better signup bonus - to find out more visit our American Express Gold review.
