Default American Express Green vs Zync, what is the difference?

And which should I get? I got pre-approved for American Express Green, but it comes with a $95 annual fee, as opposed to the $25 Zync. I figured if i apply for the Zync, i will be approved, since i am already pre approved for the green. what are the difference that justifies the $70 annual fee difference? thanks.

    Welcome to the forum!

That is an excellent question and in my personal opinion I believe American Express primarily keeps the Green card around for legacy purposes. Without it the Gold would be the lowest level; by having the Green level below it adds to the status of the Gold card.

Regarding the Zync it is almost on on par with the Green, except that points are worth much less when used for airfare. I believe the Green's higher annual fee is unjustified and to find out more please visit my American Express Green Card review for a comparison.

American Express has a new feature that let's you check which cards and promotions you are pre-selected for based on a soft credit inquiry (checking will not affect your credit). As an advertiser of American Express, CreditCardForum has a special link for you to do this: Check which AmEx cards you are pre-selected for

thanks so much for the reply , i did read your review before but i was wondering if there was anything to justify the cost. for legacy purposes, it isnt worth it. the zync looks much nicer anyways! thanks again.

I was wondering the same thing also. Does anyone know if there is a big difference between the rewards programs? I see that Zinc offers "AMEX membership rewards express" and the green offers the "AMEX rewards" DOes anyone know the difference like if things cost more points in one over the other??

The Express version points have a slightly less value than the regular Rewards and cannot be used for travel. The full membership rewards program lets you transfer to frequent flier points and the points have a slightly higher cash value.

I have a Zync card and have used the points to purchase airline tickets through the AMEX travel site, so I'm not sure where websteth is is getting his info, unless the Zync program has changed in the last couple of weeks.

I should have clarified more. With the full Membership Rewards, you can transfer your points to frequent flier miles on a one-for-one rate or you can do the purchase with points option that you are referring to with the Membership Rewards Express. Membership Reward Express only lets you do the purchase with points option. In some cases from my experience, you get a better rate on the point value when you can transfer the miles.

Default amex green? or amex zync? help!

i have a 684 experian... with 10 mos credit... which one would it be best for me? i want to get into the door of amex coz of its awesome rewards program. right now, i have a capital one secured (350 CL),wells fargo secured card (300 CL), and a walmart store credit card (1,000 CL). i got my capital one in jan.. my wf in may and walmart in august. i use only 25% of my limit on all cards. i get every month a credit monthly report connected to my wf so ive been monitoring my score everytime. walmart gave me a hard inquiry.. from 712 it went down to 683. whew!

i haven't applied an unsecured credit card thats why i need help deciding. (i dont consider the walmart coz it just a store credit card).

which one will be easier to get approve for? i just got a mail from amex saying im selected to apply for the amex green. i just wanna make sure which one im qualified for so that i wont waste a hard inquiry on my score..

    any suggestions?

Zync would be the easiest to obtain. The American Express website has a pre-approval function. It will only be a soft inquiry but this will give you an idea on what, if any, card you can be approved for.

Remember only apply for credit that you need. After Amex, you may want to let your current cards grow and then apply for an unsecured card.

im gonna let it grow once i get approve with any amex. i wanna get to their doorstep and build my credit to them. i want a charge card coz i pay everything in full monthly that's why im interested with either which.

with my score and history which one would be best?
