    Default American Express gold

I have an American Express gold card but it doesn't have the words "premium rewards" near the top right of the card. Yet it is part of my rewards as far as the AE website is concerned. What is the difference between a gold card with these words and a gold card without them?

I think the new premier rewards gold card (which I have) differs from the older gold card in that the new card gives you double points for some things and triple points for airline purchases. It's the same rewards program..

I've got the premier rewards gold card, it gives you 3 points for air travel (where I get most of my points from) 2 points for gas and grocery and 1 point for everything else I think it has a slightly higher yearly fee but it's worth it.

If you plow all your purchases on that version the 3/2/1 point scheme it's not hard for the rewards to balance out the annual fee.
