Default 2 for 1 companion ticket offer

I hardly ever go anywhere so this wouldn't be worth it for me but does anyone have the amex platinum and take advantage of their 2 for 1 airfare offer they now have? if i traveled i would do this probably. they give you a free companion airfare when you buy your ticket

"Invite a travel companion to accompany you on your next flight. Receive complimentary companion airfare, up to four times each year, when you use your Platinum Card to book qualifying domestic Coach-Class air travel - starting at $299 - aboard one of six major U.S. carrier."
here's my question though. sprint offered something like this before as a promotion and i mailed in the voucher to get my companion airfare coupon. long story short it turned out the prices of the first ticket they would offer you would be twice the price of the same ticket if you bought it by yourself. I don't know if amex does that with this program?

if they do this there's no point in having a "free" second ticket if you have to pay twice as much for your first ticket. who has the card that has used this and would know for sure?

    Thumbs up

If you and your spouse frequently go on trips, the 4 free companion tickets make the $450 annual fee for the card well worth it. Here is a link (disclosure: we are a compensated affiliate) to a special promo offer for the American Express Platinum Card

Default Amex has ended 2 plane tickets for 1 offer

American Express recently announced they are terminating the two for one companion airfare offer on both the Platinum and Centurion cards.

This was a major incentive to have the card, especially for the Platinum level. Accordingly, American Express ought to lower the annual fee of $450 to correspond to the change in benefits.

I wasn't aware Amex ended the 2 for 1 deal. Are you sure about they did?
