Anyone have good methods for meeting the spending 250K a year requirement to get the black amex?

I would say one way is having a bunch of secondary users on your amex and have everyone use primarily that card. Everyone would then pay for their own purchases. This would only work if everyone involved is trustworthy.

If you have a business another way is to run all expenses through your amex.

Any other ideas?

The truth is though if someone has to do this and include other's spending to qualify, they probably shouldn't be spending their money on the black card in the first place. Let's face it with a $5,000 initiation fee and a $2,500 annual fee that's a big chunk of your income even if you are making 500k a year.

If it takes doing that the person may be better off spray painting their card black for $2.50 instead.

Speaking of which I often see old American Express black cards for sale on Ebay. Maybe there's a way you could buy one and re-code it with your own American Express account numbers? This has to be illegal though so I wouldn't recommend anyone do it.

What are the qualifications for American Express black card / centurion other than spending 250k a year??? I bet anyone would qualify for that credit card as long as you would pony up the $$ for the annual fee and charging 250k a year I'm sure you could get around as long as you already had an Amex.

I cannot imagine anything this card can do for me that a platinum card cannot. I think this is just a self-esteem issue that some folks need to overcome. I am sure if i was to call the platinum desk and ask for something ridiculous like a cargo plane of bud select, they probably will only ask if they can come to the party.

Mogul is right you have to be very rich or own a business those would be the easiest ways.

The centurion needs to offer better benefits or perks. It will be out date and left in the past any time soon by new cards.

Just FYI - there have been no Centurion invites this year to date in the US. It does appear that the spending requirement has been increased to either 500K or 1M.

I am still thinking AMEX should starts offering BETTER benefits with the Centurion and probably with the Platinum cards.

This is true, except the minimum is not known and may be well more than this (I personally know of someone who spent $2MM last year with Amex and can't get one). It may be based on type of spend as well. Perhaps Amex is trying to make it more exclusive.
