About LinkBacksToday it was announced Bank of Valletta will begin co-issuing cards with American Express.
Bank of Valletta is Malta's oldest and largest bank. Malta a nation of seven islands located off the coast of Italy in the Mediterranean Sea.
I believe this is a very smart move for Amex to partner with under the radar countries and banks which are overlooked by the other major players in the industry. If they continue this strategy they could greatly increase their global presence and card member base.

I just did a quick Wikipedia lookup of this country and the population is around 400,000. I'm not saying it's a bad move but there's bigger markets that are unsaturated and may be better targets.

True, Malta is quite small however due to the GDP I think it is still quite a wealthy place. So why not try it ?

You're right. I think the per capita GDP from what I remember was close to the US.

If Amex ever would like to be equal or greater than Visa and Mastercard I believe utilizing strategies such as this is a must.
The other must on there list is offer better rewards and better customer service than the competitors which I think most agree they already doing this quite well.
