That's pretty cool you do pull that off

I wish I coulda done that when I was 16 with an Amex. Then I would be at Platinum status by now well actually I would qualify now but the $450 annual fee is a bit steep for me considering they took away the companion airfare thingy.

The annual fee on the Platinum card there translates to over $700 US dollars. Are the benefits this card offers truly worth that amount of money there?

I agree that in light of the recent termination of free companion airfare, the Platinum card in the United States is no longer worth the $450 annual fee for many.

Oh you keep both a platinum and centurion? Cancel your platinum since the centurion gives you all the same benefits. The American Express gold card annual fee here in the US is $125 and that's a fair value I think.

Amex seriously needs to consider lowing the annual fee on the platinum card or increasing the benefits to make it worthwhile. When they had the companion airfare I would say the annual fee was justified, but now, I don't think so.
Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

    Current Cards:
American Express: Blue Cash, Simply Cash Bank of America: WorldPoints Platinum Plus Chase: Amazon, British Airways, Cash Plus Rewards, Freedom, Ink Cash Citi: Thank You Premier, Dividend Platinum Select Discover: More
Primary Everyday Card: American Express Blue Cash
Primary Travel Card: Citi Thank You Premier

The benefits on the Amex platinum don't sound worth it too now when you think about that they aren't giving the cash rewards. Think how many perks you could be buying yourself with cashback from their different credit cards.

Either go gold or go centurion
