Default Member since '58 Amex cardholder out there?

With American Express doling out the first charge card in '58 I'd love to know how many original cardmembers are out there today. Yikes that's 50 years!

That would make for one good interview with one of them to find out what it has been like using their Amex over the years [Hint Hint Credit Card Forum!]

I would hope Amex has upgraded them to complimentary Black Card status at this point for sticking around this long!

Since '84 is a significant amount of time too. Have they sent you any rewards or thank you letters for being a member at 10 or 20 years?

I would hope that the original cardmembers of Amex have been rewarded in some shape or form. In fact, American Express should send out complimentary freebies to all their card members at 5 years, 10 years, and so on to thank them. It's the little things like that which really help build up loyalty to a company.

Gosh I wasn't even born in 58 nor was I able to look at a cc in 84. You are all so far advanced .... That makes me feel young ... Thanks

However I don't care about freebies every 5 years I rather have an American on the phone when I call Customer Support.

Now Dell is charging $12.95 if you want to speak to them on the phone with an American.

I wonder how long til Amex starts doing that too.

Amex never called or sent anything. Also not on birthdays.
    I was 16 only in 1984.

A 16 year-old is allowed to have a credit card in the Netherlands? Here in the states the age requirement is 18. Additionally, if an 18 year-old here attempted to open an American Express card, they would most likely get denied due to lack of credit history. Therefore, the actual youngest age one would qualify for an Amex on their own would most likely be age 19 to 20, at the earliest.

LOL, I changed my DoB. When Amex introduced Gold in the Netherlands 1986, I told them that my DoB was not correct.
I had a Diners Club card with my real DoB in 1984.

Ha! Today I think that would be harder to get away with now that they verify everything through computer databases. But it sounds like they gave you the Diners Club with your real birthdate when you were 16?
