About LinkBacksI am new to the forum and have two questions about the American Express Centurion / black card I'm hoping someone here can assist me with.
(1) Do these titanium black cards set off metal detectors in airports?
(2) Currently does American Express offer the Centurion / black card in Canada and if so what is the annual fee? Amex is not as widely accepted here in Canada so the annual fee should be lower if you ask me. I'm not going to upgrade if it will cost several thousand like I hear it does in the states.

I believe American Express does offer a Canadian version of the Centurion.
It would depend on the airport. Some airport metal detectors are set to higher sensitivity levels than others.

Annual fee on Amex Canada Centurion
No one else answered what the annual fee is on the Canadian Centurion card but I found the answer for you
Canada Centurion has a $2500 annual fee and that includes one supplementary Centurion. In addition to that Amex also gives you 4 additional cards if you need them and they will give you any card (Gold/Platinum/Green/anything besides the Centurion) for free with no annual fee.OBAMA

I've heard of complaints with the centurion card in airports. I don't know that it would set off the detectors, but having a flat piece of metal in your wallet that could be sharpened into a blade seems to cause the TSA some stress. :p

The primary complaint I have heard about the American Express black card is that gas pump terminals cannot read the card. Therefore the driver must go inside to pay for gas.

Well, that does it for me. If the gas pump can't take the card, then I guess I just won't apply for one.
Yeah, it is a good complaint, but customers bring it up as more of an irk than anything else. It isn't really a major problem for card members. It is an irk just like reading the numbers on a clear card can be sort of bothersome.

I know in many countries you can get a Gold or Platinum Amex card free as a supplementary card to your Centurion. If it's that much of an inconvenience you could ask request one of the plastic cards to use for gas at the pump.
I now use my Amex SimplyCash card for everything now that the rewards are good (sidenote- it's a business credit card and it seems easier to win the lotto than get one of these now from Amex) but back when I had to use different cards for different categories of spending, I kept a gas rebate credit card in my car that I would use solely for gas. But now that there are cards out there that offer higher cashback on more than one category including gas, I haven't done this in years.Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

It kind of is bizarre that the annual fee on the black card in Canada is the same as the USA don't you think? We can't use it as many places.

black card requirements
what are the black card requirements across the globe in other countries besides the usa and canada?? there must be one country that has the amex black card that has easier requirements for membership then they do in north america. the spending limit is too high except forthe business black card because my moms dentist office orders more than 250,000 dollars in dental supplies and merchandise a year alone and she would qualify if she put it on an american express card and with how modest my mom's income and lifestyle is that is stupid that she could easily meet the black card requirements for the biz version if she wanted.
