Question Why does Kim Kardashian only have a Gold Amex?!

I was watching Keeping up with the Kardashians (shut up it's a good show) and Kim Kardashian just dropped 19 thou at a single clothing store and she paid with an American Express Gold card. Why one earth does she still have an Amex Gold? She is 30 now. She makes a lot of money- $5 mil from that *** tape scandal in '07 alone. Then you add in all promotions, appearances, TV shows and modeling gigs she gets and she must be pulling in at least 3 to 5 mil a year. She drives a Bentley and her BF is Reggie Bush. You would think she would have the black card by now???

I don't know how old of an episode that was but I would bet that Kim Kardashian upgraded to Centurion black card status by now. That is shocking though that she ever had a gold card in the first place. As you pointed out she has had money for a while an Amex platinum card seems like the right choice even back then.

I noticed that too in that episode. I was shocked as well as much as she likes to shop and spend money.

Rich or Super rich we all have to keep in mind that there are a lot of Rich people who could easily afford the Platinum or even the Centurion and may have even been invited for the centurion however they just can't justify the fee. More and more people already downgrade from the platinum to either gold or green since they can't even justify the $450.00.

It's hard to justify the annual fees unless you are a heavy traveler.

Agreed. It's not the seventies or eighties anymore when charge cards were a hot new item. Back then they could get away with annual fees on cards. Now it does not make a whole lot of sense to pay for a card you can get for free. The Americsan Express Platinum card benefits are good but nothing worth paying $450 for.

Salma Hayek, reportedly, has a Gold card also. Considering her personal income and her husband is a billionaire she seems like a candidate for the Centurion. However, my family and a few other people I know have both Cent. and Gold or Green for different occasions. Sometimes, it is not exactly appropriate to whip out a black card.

I know this thread is old, but at the time this comment was made and she was dating Reggie Bush, she was flying across the country for their relationship. A girl like her only flies first class, so she probably kept the Gold card because she was racking in major MR points (3X per flight) with the card. The card makes better since for her lifestyle then centurion or platinum.

Maybe the girl is smart. Maybe she doesn't see a need to PAY for a black card.

Besides, it's all about advertising. They show her with a gold card because the poor schleps that watch that crap can only aspire to a gold card. There is no point in showing a platinum or black since no one who watches gossip TV could ever afford one anyway.

Geez, I can't believe I even responded to this thread!

I work in a company where everyone had to have the Centurion, most of them downgraded to Platinum or were "strongly suggested" to my their financial advisors. to people who have the money and they obviously can spend the platinum card it fine... If i drove a Ferrari i wouldn't be ashamed to have a Plat or even gold, Kim or Selma can charge whatever they want on any color card....also in the celebrity world i think the Centurion card is a have to have to the athletes and musicians....

just to say they have it....
