Default Amex to repay bailout money

As you probably already heard, the Fed gave permission to 10 of the banks to repay the bailout money. American Express was one of them. A lot of people are saying though the only reason the banks want to pay back the money so quick is because they don't want to have to follow the government rules imposed by them. Because they still need the money, the only difference is they are turning to institutional investors and bond sales to raise the money instead.
Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

Here's what I think is going to happen: The economy will begin to recover but then the oil prices go back up and push us into a recession. Have you seen gas the last 6 weeks?! This is out of control!!!
