Exclamation Beware of telemarketers offering to reduce your credit card interest

Beware of any phone calls from telemarketers offering to reduce the interest rate on your credit cards or mortgage. The Attorney General of Connecticut warned of a scam going on where the telemarketers will solicit this financial information from unsuspecting consumers and then proceed to use if for fraudulent purposes.

A good rule of thumb is to never give and personal info to anyone on the phone unless you are the one that initiated the call and you know for sure without a doubt who you are calling.

I think I got one of those calls a while back. I was sleeping and the caller said something about lowering the interest rate on my card. I think I said, "what?" or "no thanks" before she hung up on me.

Fraudsters aside do you guys get calls even when you have your number on the do not call list? I still get them once in a while and nothing pisses me off more. They call from scrambled numbers and since you don't know who's calling there's no much you can do about it. I say I'm reporting or I'm on the list and they hang up but what does that do discourage them from keep doing it? The calls I've gotten back in the fall were recordings about some diet pill or bullcrap and they instructed if I was interested to press a number to be connected to an operator. It was from a scrambled number reading all zeros on the caller ID and I most definitely have no association with anything in this genre in the past. It was a random call their computer dialers dialed I'm sure.

Why are all these debt settlement companies advertised as non-profit charities on their commercials?

We know they certainly are not doing charity work for anyone that is for sure.
