Discover is having a good day up 7% now.

    Not too shabby.

Visa or MasterCard almost certainly would not be able to buyout Discover to due antitrust concerns. American Express would not benefit much from acquiring Discover. In fact, none of the major credit card issuers today would benefit from an acquisition of Discover, since Discover offers them nothing that they don't already have.

Those most likely to benefit from buying Discover would be companies which would like to get into the credit card market but currently have no position it in. They would benefit but suddenly owning one of the major credit card issuers and having an "in" that would otherwise take decades to build from the ground up.

Discover is back down at 8.83 today. This thing is either at 10 to 11 or 7 to 8 and not a whole lot in between. If I did swing trading I'd be making myself a fortune on his baby.

    Default DFS down to $5.29

It's Monday and the Dow is in the 6,000s and Discover is down 7.5%. This baby is getting beaten when she doesn't deserve it. The whole company is only valued at 2.5 billion now. This thing is priced like peanuts.

Hey it's not as bad as Citibank at least. Their stock is at a buck. Now THAT is much worse and it's laughable to funny to consider that little Discover is now worth more than big Citibank. I guess no one can be on top forever.

I hear there's a lot of short action (shortselling/betting against the stock) going on right now with Discover and banking plays in general. It's hard to get appreciation to happen when you have so many betting against you.
