About LinkBacksWhat mega huge purchases have been made on credit cards before? I heard someone pay for a Gulfstream jet with their American Express Centurion card. Is this rumor or truth? If it's true that's probably the biggest transaction on a credit card because those bad boys cost $12 to $70 mil each.

What is the biggest purchase ever made on a credit card? I don't think we can ever know for sure, but Eli Broad of Los Angeles used his American Express to buy a 2.5 million dollar painting titled "I... I'm Sorry" by Roy Lichtenstein.
But it might be the government that's the biggest credit card spender. In '97 it was revealed one federal government employee had a single transaction of $713,000. Some have limits as high as a million per day on their government credit card. Too bad Elliot Spitzer didn't have one of those cards to pay for his hookers.

I was thinking about this some more.
I know people have bought high end cars on credit cards like Bentleys and Laborghinis but I guess that wouldn't qualify as the biggest. I don't know if those rumors about someone buying a jet on their American Express are true or not. They might just be rumors created for marketing. I mean what better way to brand your card as the ultimate card that can do anything then starting a buzz campaign that someone bought a jet with one.Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. I Tried Searching On Google For "what Is The Most Expensive Purchase On A Credit Card" And "what Is The Most Expensive Purchase On A Credit Card And Found Nothing. Seems To Me Like Doing Big Purchases On Credit Cards With Rewards Is Good Because You're Getting Something Back. If You Bought A Jet For 50 Million You'd Be Getting A 1/2 Million Back In Points.

but if someone tried to buy something that big [a plane]do you think they would accept credit card as payment for that big of a purchase? i know they're not allowed to have minimums but would they just outright refuse it anyway? because imagine the transaction fees for them on a price tag like that. ouch!
