    Cool More Plastic Than Paper

This info is from an issue of USA Today last week that shows what percentage of purchases are paid for with credit cards.
    • Gas - 70% on credit cards
    • Food & Groceries - 67% on credit cards
    • Clothing - 51% on credit cards
    • Leisure & Activities - 50% on credit cards
    • Health Care - 24% on credit cards

Looks like credit cards are now officially the most popular payment method for many things. I was disturbed to see healthcare on there though. I know a lot of people use cards for the rewards and pay them off, but it's sad that some people have to carry a balance on their cards to pay their healthcare costs.

    Current Cards:
American Express: Blue Cash, Simply Cash Bank of America: WorldPoints Platinum Plus Chase: Amazon, British Airways, Cash Plus Rewards, Freedom, Ink Cash Citi: Thank You Premier, Dividend Platinum Select Discover: More
Primary Everyday Card: American Express Blue Cash
Primary Travel Card: Citi Thank You Premier

Actually I'm surprised that health care is only 24 %. With more and more folks not having any health insurance at all, folks losing it because of layoffs and terminations and of course larger and larger co-pays.

Being that people's paychecks are not enough to get by this isn't surprising at all. I do hope most of that credit card usage in this study represents amounts that are paid off in full each month.

You would think clothing would be more than half since it's so expensive. I didn't think half the people would risk to carry that much money on them to buy clothes.

gas i'm not surprised at all. one people can't fricking afford gas now so what do you expect. even if you could afford it why would you pay with cash when you can get the rewards with gas rebate credit cards. plus it's too much of a hassle to walk in and pay with cash and be harassed by some foreigner who doesn't speak english and things you stole a twinkie even [true story!]

Speaking of healthcare I wonder how long it will be until there's a healthcare rewards card that gives extra points for doctors/pharmacies/hospitals. Kind of gloomy and doomy that it's came down to that something like that ctually sounding attractive, but with the state of the economy and like magyar mentioned people need to pay out of pocket it's outrageous. At this rate I give it 5 years before one comes out.

I think Capital One has something but it's not a credit card. F*ck dude can't they just make healthcare affordable instead of having to finance it??

Healthcare should be a right not a privilege!

i heard on talk radio something about the trend back to cash right now. if you pay off your card in full each month credit is good because of rewards. it could be too that there are more people using cashing simply because there are more people with shot credit right now from all the foreclosures so they may not have credit cards anymore to use.
