Lightbulb How I'm being frugal right now.

I've felt like I need to cut corners every way I can with the slowing economy. Even if you're one of the lucky ones that hasn't experienced a drop in income (or lost your job), you most certainly have lost money either in your home's value, your retirement, your investments, high gas and food prices, or all of the above.
    1. I've cut out cable. This is something I miss because I like watching my news, especially during election time. Surprisingly I don't get any channels in clearly in with an antenna despite living in a metropolitan area so I've resorted to using the CNN website quite often for the news. They have free streaming video for important things like the debate, but not any of their shows.
    2. I've cut back on eating out significantly.
    3. No vacations or traveling for me this year.
    4. I've significantly cut back on my groceries. I've been buying frozen fruits and veggies instead of fresh since they are much cheaper. I'm drinking a lot more water instead of juices. And to keep this post on topic, I've switched my main credit card from the Amex Simply Cash to the Blue Cash since it has better rewards for gas/groceries/drugstores at 5%. I already had opened up this card in the past but when I read the Blue Cash review on here it made me contemplate using it again.

Any other good tips on saving money right now?

I've basically cut out all spending unless it's something needed like rent, groceries, gas. That's it!

The Dow is down 40% in a year and that basically means our assets are down 40%. We need to save money EVERY WAY WE CAN!

    My Tip:

Costco or Sam's Club often isn't cheaper for food. The prices are no different than a sale price at the grocery store. Then there's the problem with large quantity purchases are warehouse stores; most shoppers buy more than they can eat and often a portion ends up in the rubbish. The membership fees average $50 and up which often do not make sense for an individual or small family.

When at the grocery store, buying heavily discount sale items or generic will save you an equivalent amount as Costco or the like. Combine manufacturer coupons with store coupons to maximize your savings.

You're saying Costco & Sams Club don't save money?

Totally disagree. It depends what you buy there. Some things will save you money and some things won't. Where I find I usually save money is not with the groceries but the other stuff you buy like ink cartridges, books and DVDs, stuff for your home and all that good stuff.
