Default Los Angeles implements credit card terminals on parking meters

A previous post on this forum discussed the wish for the convenience of credit card usage at parking meters. The phrase "be careful what you wish for" applies here.

Los Angeles is replacing 6,000 of its 40,000 parking meters with credit card terminals. The positive aspect is this will be more convenient but the negative will be it will cost much more for parking, both per hour as well as the enforcement times will be extended up to 24 hours a day.

They said it's the first time in that county they've rose parking rates in 20 years. Wow this sure is a great prosperous time for them to choose to increase the cost of doing business isn't it!

If they don't take Amex then Amex needs to get off their butt and protest it, cite the city supporting monopolies antitrust and all that unless they take Amex. If that argument made the banks buckle then I dont see why they cant do the same thing with city parking

It will be interesting to see whether the parking meters will accept American Express and Discover. In this age I believe they will be required due to the antitrust reasons you mentioned. However most DMV and other government services are still only accepting Visa and MasterCard. I predict they too will begin accepting the others.

But getting 1% or 2% in rewards won't be worth it if the parking rates are 50% to 100% more.

parking rates are out of hand everywhere now. unless you are parking in a parking lot or valet we should be given affordable parking on the streets since it is government property and we own the government after all!

I haven't seen these yet and I'm not looking forward to seeing them either.
