    Default VISA Infinite Choices

    Hello folks,

I'm the new guy...who came in for a reason, but has found plenty of reasons and information to stick around and participate.
What a wealth of information here...I'm gonna like it alot!

Anyway, my biggest wonder (and maybe I should be posting in one of the catagories) are the VISA Infinite Cards.
I have a gold card with a leading Canadian bank that is associated with Air Canada Aeroplan. I;ve been using it for years.
All of a sudden, they're heavily suggesting I upgrade to the Infinite card for reasons that aren't clear to me.
Same fees...just about the same benefits. Most Cdn banks offer thsi now.
Actually, they sent me notice that I was automatically going to be "upgraded" unless I phone and decline.
I didn't understand this push, so I did decline.
    They're still pushing.
What gives? Am I missing something?
    Benefits? Credit Limit? Credit Rating?

Any thoughts, suggestions or answers would be great.

    Thanks

I haven't heard of the Visa Infinite card. I'm not sure if we have it in the US.

I am 99% certain the reason they are asking you to upgrade is because these cards are more profitable for them. Certain categories of cards mean higher transaction fees for the merchants. Like a business card costs an additional 1% of the purchase.

I think that's the reason why. They want the processing fees on your account to be higher so they can make more money off you.

    Cool

    Thanks for the info.
I knew different cards pulled different charges at vendors.
Maybe that's it, because I'm hard pressed to see any diffference in the offerings or advantage for having one card over the other.

I don't think the Visa Infinite has a preset spending limit. That's one difference and a bad one at that.

I haven't heard of this but it sounds like one of those knock off cards that is meant to be a luxury credit card but is not one. I don't know why people are paying annual fees for the Visa Black and all these things when they don't even give you any real benefits.

Some of those cards give you great benefits IF you can use them. It is very easy to get your money's worth. But if you can't use teh benefits then you are right it does not make sense.

I have a Visa Signature card that is platinum or something like that. I pay an annual fee but I get a free airline ticket for that. I pay about $150 a year and the ticket is a free companion ticket for anywhere in the US. If I can use that it is worth at least $300 and often around $600. This is in addition to miles and other things I get. I have had this card for 13+ years and have gotten free trips in business class to Australia and several times to Europs all without ever paying a dime in interest. It has easily paid for itself.

BUT...because I am too busy with work and other stuff now I will probably ditch it in favor of a card that gives different benefits.

I don't have any argument with what you said about annual fees in general but I have personally found that you get much better perks if you are willing to pay one.

If you live near a big metropolitan area and socialize a lot some of those cards can get you good tickets, discounts, etc. Again, it's not for me where I live and maybe not for you. But it can be worth it for many people.
