    Default Citibank MC Checks

So I have this "Citicard" w/ a tiny balance on it & a fixed APR of 9.25%. I have read about the rate increase, which hasn't happened to me (yet!), but I'm paying off the remainder this month.

Problem is: They seem to SO want me to make a balance transfer. Since about July, they've sent me at least 20 packets of checks & keep emailing me extended transfer offers. But this is my only card, so I have no other balance to transfer (geez!). What do I do here? They must be wasting, like, so much paper & postage!

BTW: My only other credit is a "Paypal Buyer Credit" account which I use to make small purchases on eBay & then pay off in full (never payed a penny in interest).

Just ignore the checks - rip 'em up and toss them. I've gotten the same thing for years.

For amusement, read the fine print. Some of those "checks" are nasty! They carry high rates or obligate you to accept bad terms.

Default call them and tell them to stop sending...

I've done that with all my cards. The checks represent a small security risk. Someone could grab them out of your mailbox or a postal worker might even try to use them (mail theft is more widespread than most people realize). Better yet, go online and configure your accounts for paperless everything.

If you really want to stop offers, contact credit reporting agencies and opt out of credit card pre-screen offers. Then you won't get any pre-approved offers either.

As said above just rip them up and it sounds like you have no choice since you don't have another card anyway. I do know though that BofA deposits the balance transfer money into your checking and it's basically yours to do with what you want. You are supposed to use it on your balance but there's no oversight with that. If Citi does that you could take the money and turn around to use it and pay off that existing balance. But that might not work until the credit card reform goes into effect because I think balances are still applied to the lower APRs first.
Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

    Current Cards:
American Express: Blue Cash, Simply Cash Bank of America: WorldPoints Platinum Plus Chase: Amazon, British Airways, Cash Plus Rewards, Freedom, Ink Cash Citi: Thank You Premier, Dividend Platinum Select Discover: More
Primary Everyday Card: American Express Blue Cash
Primary Travel Card: Citi Thank You Premier

On the paperless everything...I have friend who got burned by this. I don't remember the details but the bottom line was that part of the agreement you agree to for the paperless requires waiving many unrelated rights including right to notice. Just be careful and read the details.

As far as stopping offers, this does work! I did that several years ago and my mail volume dropped dramatically. But it does not stop the checks from coming for cards you already have. I know because I opted out of everything possible and still get those.

Default you have to specifically request

that the checks be stopped with the credit card company.

    Default Thanks

Thanks for all the responses. I'll try calling to request stoppage of the checks. Some of them came w/ suggestions that I use 'em for things like groceries & paying bills. In the latter case, I certainly have no need to borrow from Peter to pay Paul! Existing checks have been shredded!
