new rewards cc idea

i want to see a credit card that gives rewards on food -- grocery, fast food and restaurants. i'm talking about a card that has arrangements with popular fast food joints like mcdonalds, starbucks, papa john's, etc and gives a 10% discount at purchases there. kind of like the amex open network except with fast food restaurants instead. then i want to see high rewards for spending on food too -- 3% to 5% cashback or points at any grocery store, fast food joint, or restaurant.

a credit card built entirely around eating. can you imagine how popular this card would be if the rewards and discounts were good? it would be a hit no doubt.

Why don't you recommend that to a CC Company, maybe they will like the idea ? However I think you expect to much. 5-10% is a lot if a cc company only makes 2-3.5% on the entire charge.

Good idea!

But I think many other people have thought of that already too.

The 10% discount the credit cards wouldn't have to pay for if it was done like the American Express Open discount network you mentioned. That is a deal they have worked out with the companies so the price they charge Amex for a $100 purchase is only $90 if it's 10% off there.

That way it doesn't cost the credit card companies anything and it's good for the restaurants because it would give us a reason to go there.

Discover previously did offer a card which offered 5% cashback at restaurants including fast food but they phased that card out of existence at least two or three years back.
