Thumbs down Holland America Line Rewards Visa card

This is a new credit card that Holland America Line (the cruise company) and Barclays came out with yesterday. It gives 1% back in points you can use to buy a cruise. Do they really think Americans are this dumb to fall for this? What is the point of only getting 1% cashback in rewards so you can then take that and use it to buy a cruise.

wouldn't any other regular 1% cashback credit card do the same thing? You take the cashback and buy the cruise, plane ticket, or whatever else you want.

They really need to stop coming out with pointless reward cards like this Holland America Line Visa. Carnival Cruise is their main cruiseline. Do you really want to earn low 1% rewards so you can go buy a cruise on Carnival and get sick from food poisoning? I know I don't.
Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

Americans don't like to read you know that.

Because if they were reading the details of the rewards and thinking it through they would realize it's a loser deal for them.

I always go with cashback instead of rewards because you can always find stuff cheaper than the retail price they charge you for rewards!

    Thumbs down HAL Visa ripoff

Called the redemption number and WHOOPIE!! HAL Visa redemption points equal 1 to 2% progressive equivilent cash like discover but only applicable to cruises. 10,000 points equals $100 off cruise, 135,000 points equal $2000, 150,000 equals free cruise up to $3000 value, 250,000 equals free cruise up to $7500 value. Ditto to "I'll just take the cash" from my two 1,2,3 or 5% rewards cards.

Cool HAL Visa points redemption correction

Scratch that 250,000 points, it's 300,000 for free cruise up to $7500 value, and 200,000 for up to $4000 cruise. WHOOPIE still!!!
