Unhappy why did citi get rid of their great cash back?

does anyone remember when citi use to have a 5% cash back card on groceries and gas? then they brought it down a couple years ago to a measly 2%. what good does 2% do on these two categories that have seen inflation like crazy? i wish they'd bring it back, or at least someone would bring back a grocery cashback credit card. seriously food prices are nuts i have a feeling in a few years our country won't be as fat because no one will be able to afford to eat

yeah funny you mention that i had both a citi dividend platinum select card and a chase rewards card, both which had 5% on groceries and gas but when they stopped that, i stopped using them too now i just stick to that american express card that's reviewed on here that gives 5%. i had that card since july and i love it.

Well they probably just weren't making enough of a profit on it to make it worthwhile. Why else would they end it? But yeah they lost me as an active cardmember. I stopped using their Citi Dividend card as soon as that happened. 1 or 2% rewards just isn't anything special if you can qualify for a card that gives you more. The other thing I didn't like was their reward redemption process. You had to get $50 before you could redeem each time. I just prefer having rewards automatically credited or an automatic check mailed to me.

Probably the bean counters realized they weren't making enough money. Who knows. Anyway what I've love to see is a credit card that gave 5% cash back on gas AND groceries. Those are the two things hurting Americans the most right now. The first company that does that will have folks lining up 'round the block to signup!

I remember back when the Citi Dividend card was at their peak they offer 10% cash back on groceries, pharmacies, and gas. They would send an offer in the mail to customers and offer it to them if they paid an extra $10 or $20 a month for the extra 5%. Today that might actually make sense with how much gas and groceries are. I know so many people that had the Citi Dividend card including myself that just stopped using the cards cold turkey as soon as they stopped the 5%. If Citi wants to compete they're going to need to come out with another 5% card because as of now none of their cards that I know of are any match against the other ones out there.
