Thread: Discover More - 5% in what categories?

Who here has the Discover More card?? They say they give you 5% cash back in different categories, but I don't know what the categories are.

The Discover More card offers a 5% bonus in categories like travel, gas, home, apparel, movies, restaurants, and more. The categories change throughout the year (usually quarterly) and they notify you on your bill what's coming up next. I know right now on my card for this cycle they were offering 5% on apparel/clothes/department store purchases, 5% on movies, and 5% on home improvement/hardware. For all other purchases you earn 1%. You also get a cashback bonus at top online retailers of 5% to 20% all the time.

Hey dude got my bill today and there was a little insert with the schedule for the 5% cashback this year-

Jan/Feb/March - airlines, cruise lines, hotels, car rentals
April/May/June - dept stores, clothing stores, home improvement, lawn & garden
July/Aug/Sept - gas stations, hotels
Oct/Nov/Dec - restaurants, movie theaters, movie rentals

Does anyone know if Discover is also doing the bonus this year at Christmas where they give you $20 back for every $200 spent at malls with your Discover card? They did that last year and I think the year before that too.

Hey was talking to my buddy who works at a mall...something in marketing she does. She said she thinks they are doing it this year b/c of the advertising Discover bought in the mall during Oct/Nov/Dec. $20 for every $200 plus the normal cashback is a good deal. With the slouching economy I wouldn't be surprised if Discover even throws in something else to encourage people to start spending again.

You folks might be interested to hear this.

My wife ordered something and paid for it with her Discover More card. She changed her mind and called the merchant to cancel but they shipped out the good anyway. She called up Discover and they revoked the charges since she canceled the order and it was shipped anyway. She got her money back and they told her to keep the merchandise.

Side note: We don't carry a balance but they are offering 0% balance transfers for 12 months til Sept 09 on this card right now. That's what it said on the statement we got in the mail yesterday.

Does anyone know when the $20 back for every $200 at malls starts this year for this card? I'm hoping it starts in 4 weeks (Oct 1st) because I have a couple birthdays I need to buy for too.
