Default What is the point of store credit cards?

I don't get why people sign up for all these individual store cards. They all give the same friggin' rewards! And then what's the deal with so many different cards that may give different rewards (cash back, gift cards, miles but at the end of the day they equal out to be only 1% rebate on your spending (1 cents per dollar spent)

Are people really this stupid that they don't realize these gimmicks???

There's a lot of worthless products and services sold to us everyday. Get used to it.

I would not generalize things and categorize all store cards as having no point. There are a handful that do give high rewards you cannot get with a regular card. I am not necessarily recommending to apply for a credit card from every store shopped at but for the places I shop the most, the rewards and coupons can turn out to be hundreds a year in savings.

My best buy store card gives me up to 3 years no interest and actually sometimes longer on things I buy theres no other card that I know of that can do that without being an intro offer for my major household purchases.

Oh that is spectacular. Go buy a new flat panel television that you can't afford using your 0% credit card deals and finance it for years to come. In your grandparents' days the philosphophy was to save up to buy a house. Then came the popularity of mortgages and soon Americans said why not finance everything? One day China will come knocking at our door asking for payment.

So I'm guessing you came in here to just bash everyone that uses any form of debt huh? Unless you have never had any type of debt in your life you have no right and if you haven't then you have no use of even being in here. I'm sorry but I don't see why you assume I can't afford something I choose to rather pay over a period of time rather than a lump sum maybe I would like to keep my money in an interest bearing account while making payments on my TV with no interest.

Credit is a fantastic tool when managed responsibly. Interest-free financing is a great deal if...

You were going to buy the product anyway.
You know all the terms of the deal and can adhere to them.
You will be able to pay the debt off and avoid finance charges, particularly the retroactive ones (ouch!).

Not everyone who uses credit is irresponsible. In fact, the vast majority are responsible. Most credit card holders pay their balances in full every month. The majority who have credit problems would have financial trouble even without credit cards. For the financially vulnerable, credit can be a safety net in the event of a job loss or other financial reversal.

I was at a movie theater a few years ago paying for my popcorn and soda with a credit card. Some guy behind me made some stupid remark about buying these items on credit. Whatever. I got 2% of my purchase cost back, and the transaction joined an itemized list of all of my spending for the month for my review at a later time. The bill, like all the others, was paid automatically, in full via a debit to my interest-bearing checking account.

People who sneer indiscriminately at credit and those who use it generally have issues of their own that need to be addressed.

Damn right I am going to bash. It is the people like you that caused the end of America as we know it. If you think I am going to believe that neither of you two have card debt your sorely mistaken. I know how the game works. That what you tell the world to cover up what goes on behind the scenes. You have fallen right into the trap that the bank wants you in. You have been brainwashed into buying the lies and deceit. The rewards are a scam to make you spedn and give a cause to do it. This forum disgusts me it is nothing but a place for deadbeats to come and take glee in being in debt and screwing me out out of my taxes. The days of others paying for your mistakes are limited my friend. The free money printing presses will come to a halt and the party will be over. China is already dumping dollars and you would know that if you turned off yourJersey shores and read the newspaper.

This man called me a fool when I did nothing to provoke it.
