Default HELP: Visa Credit Card lost/stolen

    Dear Sirs,

Can anyone of you inform about following scenario:

Imagine you loose your credit card and you call card stop immediately.
Credit Card Company (Visa) will block any debt attempts with your lost (or even stolen) credit card by third parties.
However, Visa will have to provide a new credit card to be sent to you.

Question: will they issue a fully new credit card number, yes or no?

Thank you for your help on this matter.

    Best regards,
    Bruno

Yes there are 16 digits in the Visa/MC combination, that combined with the 3 digit security code makes for a unique combination. You will receive a new number.
Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

Been there done that. You get a completely new number. The first few digits will be the same because those identify the bank.

Also, a slight correction to what you said. You said "Visa will have to provide a new credit card to be sent to you." -- No they will not. They probably will but if they think you are somehow involved in the fraud, were negligent in teh loss, or are otherwise a security risk, they may not give you a replacement card. It is entirely their choice.

Also, they will send you some written documents to sign declaring under oath that what you told them is true and identifying all the transactions you did not authorize.

If you have any automatic payments on the old card they will not transfer to the new number. It is up to YOU to contact the old merchants. If you fail to do so these can sometimes be treated like bounced checks and merchants could charge you a fee. This is one reason why, as a matter of policy, I never agree to automatic transactions on credit cards.
