Default What is the difference between..

Platinum debit and gold debit? All debits would be the same since there linked to your bank account right? I have a classic and I see people with gold and I would like to know how I would go about getting one.

    Thanks

I see you're in Cali too. To be honest I don't know. I also notice others in front of me in line paying for a purchase with a Gold Bank of America debit card. I was given a platinum debit card when I opened my checking account with them but I never asked for it and have no idea how they made that decision.

I'm assuming it must be based on credit and those with low to mid scores are given gold? I can't think of how else they would do it.

The benefits on both are the same- as in there is none!

I've been considering changing banks for my checking account. I notice a lot of banks have tiered interest earning checking accounts if you carry a high balance. Sometimes they bump up the metal of the debit card based on your balance:

    $!0000 - $25000 = gold debit and 1% interest
    $25000 - $50000 = platinum debit and 1.5% interest

I think itis just a marketing gimick. There are no enhanced benefits.

The Gold/Platinum debit thing is a joke. I opened my account up with very little money when I was 19 and got a Platinum but I know others twice my age that have a lot more money and were only given Gold debit cards. There's no rhyme or reason to it.

p.s. Chase bank just called me today trying to harass me to get me to switch checking accounts to their bank. I played along for a sec and pretended I only would do it if they gave me a platinum debit card. They didn't know what the difference was between the platinum and the gold or how it's decided who gets which LOL

It's probably based on how much money you opened your checking account with. For example if you opened up with 20,000 they know you maintain a balance of 10,000 to 30,000 and then they may give you a executive looking platinum debit card.
If you opened a checking with 10,000 and maintain a balance of 5,000 to 15,000 you might get gold.
People who stand in line in front of me use chase blue debit cards.
